Now that you know where to bet on the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix, it’s time to check out the latest Austrian GP betting odds.
2022 Austrian Grand Prix Odds
According to the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix odds at BetOnline, Max Verstappen (-110) is the favorite to take the chequered flag at the Red Bull Ring.
The reigning World Champion finished seventh at the British GP after sustaining bodywork damage. But having won five of the past seven races, he remains 34 points clear atop the World Drivers’ Championship standings.
As expected, Charles Leclerc (+250) is viewed as Verstappen’s main challenger once again. Although the Ferrari man finished fourth last time out, he is still one of the fastest drivers on the grid.
Red Bull’s Sergio Perez (+1000) still finds himself ahead of the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton (+1200) and George Russell (+1600). However, the Brits are beginning to close the gap to the bookies’ regular frontrunners.
Could Lando Norris (+12500) or Fernando Alonso (+15000) upset the Austrian Grand Prix betting odds? Let’s not forget that Norris finished sixth last weekend, while Alonso rose from P7 to P5 to register his best finish of the season so far.
To say that the British GP was eventful would be a colossal understatement. So, before we take a closer look at the contenders for the Austrian Grand Prix, let’s relive the previous race.
What Happened at the 2022 British Grand Prix?
At the very first corner of the British GP, a huge pile-up saw Zhou Guanyu’s Alfa Romeo flip upside down and spin off the track. Thankfully, Zhou came away unscathed. But he exited the race along with George Russell and Pierre Gasly.
Following an hour-long delay, the race finally restarted. Thanks to questionable strategy calls from Ferrari – and damage to Verstappen’s Red Bull – Sainz secured P1 for the very first time in his Formula 1 career.
- Carlos Sainz (2:17:50.311)
- Sergio Perez (+3.779)
- Lewis Hamilton (+6.225)
- Charles Leclerc (+8.546)
- Fernando Alonso (+9.571)
- Lando Norris (+11.943)
- Max Verstappen (+18.777)
- Mick Schumacher (+18.995)
- Sebastian Vettel (+22.356)
- Kevin Magnussen (+24.590)
The result was defined by another safety car, which set up a hectic final nine laps. Perez, Hamilton, and Leclerc were all in contention for the win late, but Sainz managed to fend off the chasing pack to seal the victory.
Unfortunately for Verstappen, his car was slowed by floor damage caused by running over debris. Still, the defending champion remains the bookies’ favorite for the Austrian GP.
Verstappen and Leclerc Are the Obvious Austrian GP Favorites
It is no secret that both Verstappen and Leclerc endured a British Grand Prix to forget. However, the Austrian GP odds indicate that the title protagonists are favored to dominate proceedings at the Red Bull Ring.
This section of my 2022 Austrian Grand Prix betting preview assesses the chances of the two frontrunners.
Max Verstappen (-110)
Verstappen headed into the British GP on a run of five victories in six races. After sealing P2 in qualifying, the reigning champ looked destined to enjoy another successful Grand Prix.
However, the Red Bull star was forced to pit four times at Silverstone. Following disruption after disruption, he finished seventh – 12 seconds shy of the podium places and 18 seconds behind Sainz.
Still, Verstappen remains in a seriously strong position. In addition to winning five of the last seven races, he has won six of the ten races this season. As a result, he boasts a healthy lead atop the standings.
|CURRENT WORLD DRIVERS’ CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS (2022)|
|Max Verstappen||Red Bull||181|
|Sergio Perez||Red Bull||147|
It was sheer bad luck that Verstappen’s British GP was hampered by running over debris on the track. Having proved that he is the fastest driver on the grid, he shouldn’t struggle to bounce back in Austria.
Charles Leclerc (+250)
I think Leclerc can count himself extremely unfortunate to have missed out on a podium finish last weekend. In fact, he will probably feel that he could have won the British Grand Prix.
The Ferrari man qualified third before leading the race, but his team’s strategy ultimately denied him the victory. Consequently, he finished fourth – eight seconds behind teammate and race winner Sainz.
It is worth remembering that Leclerc won two opening three races this year and finished second in Saudi Arabia and Miami. He also secured six pole positions across the first eight races, but his performances have tailed off recently.
Even so, you would be a fool to disregard Leclerc when making your 2022 Austrian Grand Prix prediction. Having started the season in red-hot form, it is only a matter of time before he takes the chequered flag once again.
Who Are the Other 2022 Austrian Grand Prix Contenders?
There have only been four race winners this season – two Red Bull drivers and two Ferrari drivers. Although Verstappen and Leclerc are favored to dominate the Austrian GP, Sainz and Perez will be eager to return to the top of the podium.
Can the Mercedes duo of Hamilton and Russell also compete for P1 at the Red Bull Ring? Let’s examine the other contenders for the Austrian Grand Prix.
Carlos Sainz (+900)
After triumphing at Silverstone, Sainz will be a popular Austrian Grand Prix pick. Granted, he benefited from a series of favorable occurrences last time out. But few would argue that he didn’t deserve to win the British GP.
Sainz has played second fiddle to Leclerc throughout 2022 and even allowed his teammate to overtake him last weekend. Still, he managed to fight back and clinch his first-ever F1 victory.
Only Verstappen (7) has achieved more podiums than Sainz (6) this year. With one P1, three P2s, and two P3s to his name, the Spaniard stands an excellent chance of beating the Austrian GP betting odds.
Sergio Perez (+1000)
Of course, Verstappen is the main man at Red Bull. But there is no hiding the fact that Perez has outperformed his teammate – and the defending champion – on three occasions this season.
Many people expected Leclerc to be Verstappen’s main title rival this year, but it’s Perez who sits second in the World Drivers’ Championship standings after ten races. He will surely fancy his chances of triumphing in Austria.
Lewis Hamilton (+1200)
We all know that Hamilton endured a dismal start to the season. I mean, the seven-time World Champion registered a solitary podium across the first eight races – finishing as low as P13 in the process.
However, Hamilton appears to be back on track (pardon the pun). Having sealed back-to-back P3 finishes in Canada and Britain, the Mercedes driver and his team will be confident of challenging for P1 in Austria.
It is also worth pointing out that Hamilton registered the fastest lap last weekend. This tells us that Mercedes is beginning to close the gap with Red Bull and Ferrari in terms of performance.
George Russell (+1600)
Russell’s nine-race run of consecutive top-five finishes finally came to an end last time out. The Mercedes man was involved in the first-lap pile-up, meaning he suffered his first DNF of the year on home soil.
Needless to say, the 24-year-old will be desperate to make amends in Austria. If his prior displays in 2022 are anything to go by, there is no reason why he can’t atone for last weekend’s early exit at the Red Bull Ring.
Russell has outperformed Hamilton on seven occasions this year. If he outperforms his teammate in Austria, he will give himself a genuine chance of recording his maiden F1 victory.
Austrian Grand Prix Prediction and Pick for 2022
Admittedly, I backed Verstappen to win the British GP. If it weren’t for an unfortunate turn of events, I’m confident he would have outpaced his rivals to take the chequered flag at Silverstone.
With that in mind, I’m backing Verstappen to triumph in Austria. Not only has he won two of the last three races, but he has also won five of the previous seven. That tells you everything you need to know about his dominance.
Hopefully, my 2022 Austrian Grand Prix betting guide will help you win some money in the race. Why not check out the pages below if you’re looking for more Formula 1 content and F1 betting tips?
