The bookies are offering 2023-23 United Rugby Championship betting odds for what should be another rollercoaster of a season.

The Stormers beat the Bulls in the first-ever URC Grand Final in June. Those two South African sides will certainly be hopeful of getting another shot at the title by the end of the campaign. But Ireland’s Leinster is considered the top of the best bets for the United Rugby Championship in the 22-23 season.

Sixteen teams will face off in this year’s tournament, participating from Ireland, Italy, Scotland, South Africa, and Wales. Of course, there can only be one winner, and I’ll be making predictions for the United Rugby Championship 2023 champions and providing a complete URC preview of what is to come.

Looking to make 2022-23 betting picks for the United Rugby Championship? If so, you will need a solid betting site to get those wagers down. Let’s touch on those, and then dive right into the latest odds.

2022-23 Odds for the United Rugby Championship Winner

I’ve taken the 2022-23 United Rugby Championship odds from Bovada. The odds are accurate at the time of writing but subject to change.

Will we see these odds shift as the season goes on? Most certainly. Take, for example, Leinster. The Dublin-based team has been the dominant force in the former incarnations of this tournament, having won seven titles in the PRO14 and Celtic League.

Leo Cullen’s men, who were priced at -150 before a ball was kicked last season, suffered a surprise loss to the Bulls in Dublin in the semis. Is revenge on the cards?

Leinster team celebrating

There is no doubt that the odds for the United Rugby Championship Grand Final winners in 2022-23 look pretty good. The Irish team could be a wise investment at this point, given those odds will certainly look a little more prohibitive when they start amassing wins.

What a gap it is to the second betting favorites for the 2022-23 URC winner. Leinster’s provincial rivals, Munster, come in at odds of +750.

Former England prop Graham Rowntree will take the hot seat in Limerick, having been named as head coach in place of the now-departed Johann van Graan. Could we see a revitalized Munster with van Graan moving across the Irish Sea for Bath? The southern province is expected to mount a serious challenge with the top betting sites for United Rugby Championship odds.

The Sharks, Stormers, and Ulster are the only other teams within the +1000 mark. From there on, prices swell for the Italian and Welsh sides unfancied by the oddsmakers.

2022-23 URC Fixtures and Details

The first round of United Rugby Championship fixtures for the 2022-23 season is scheduled for September 2022.

We expect a similar format to the inaugural championship, with teams split into provincial shields. This precedes the knockout stages of the tournament, which are likely to be played in the early summer of 2023. This is when the business end of the season starts, with odds for the United Rugby Championship winner beginning to look a lot different from the preseason prices.

Let’s look at the key dates to add to your diary.

Dates for URC Matches 2022-23

  • Group Matches: September 2022 to May 2023
  • Playoffs: First Two Weeks of June 2023
  • Grand Final: June 17, 2023

Rounds 1 to 18 of the URC 2022-23 season will take place from September to May.

These matches will be contested between teams according to the Regional Shield pools. This format worked well in the 2021-22 season and is expected to remain the preferred choice among the unions. Of course, if that changes, I’ll update this section to let you know.

The 2023 United Rugby Championship Grand Final is scheduled for Saturday, June 17, following URC Playoffs that are slated to go down in the first two weeks of June.

2022-23 United Rugby Championship Pools

Again, the URC groups are set to look the same as last year. Teams will be split into regional pools based on location. For instance, Ireland’s Leinster joins fellow Irish side Ulster, while the Scarlets and Cardiff Blues will duke it out in the Welsh pool.

Given that only two teams represent Italy and Scotland, the Italo-Scottish pool will host all four from those nations.

Irish Pool

  • Connacht
  • Leinster
  • Muster
  • Ulster

Italian-Scottish Pool

  • Benneton
  • Edinburgh
  • Glasgow Warriors
  • Zebre

South African Pool

  • Bulls
  • Lions
  • Sharks
  • Stormers

Welsh Pool

  • Cardiff Blues
  • Dragons
  • Ospreys
  • Scarletts

Wondering where to watch United Rugby Championship matches in your country?

No betting preview for the United Rugby Championship 2022-23 season is complete without a mention of how you can observe the action.

The broadcasting details are clear if you’re looking to follow URC matches in the 2022-23 season and are based in any of the countries above.

However, it must be noted that the best online stream for the United Rugby Championship is available through the URC TV app.

Regardless of where you are watching from, you should find a way to get in on the action.

With that covered, let’s move on. As I mentioned earlier, I will provide some predictions for the United Rugby Championship 2022-23 season. But before we get to those, I want to profile the top teams to watch.

Let’s start with the favorites.

Betting Favorites for the 2022-23 United Rugby Championship

Let’s profile the best candidates to win the United Rugby Championship in 2023.

Few expected an all-South African final last year, with Leinster the most popular of the URC betting picks to win the tournament. This proves that surprises can happen. But if they were to happen all the time, the concept of an upset wouldn’t be on the radar.

That’s not to say that my betting picks for the United Rugby Championship 2022-23 season will be either predictable or off the wall. But no one can deny the strength of Ireland’s most successful province.

Leinster logo
  • Odds: -185
  • Nation: Ireland
  • Captain: Johnny Sexton
  • Head Coach: Leo Cullen
  • 2021/22 Finish: Semi-Finals
  • 2022/23 Predicted Finish: Winners

In a hypothetical situation, I’d expect a vast majority of betting picks for the 2022-23 United Rugby Championship Grand Final winner to vote in favor of Leinster.

No team is deemed to have as much as the Dubliners do now. Even with captain and legend Jonathan Sexton approaching the end of his career, Leinster’s odds to win the United Rugby Championship are as tight as they come. They are considered even stronger than they were this time last year.

Much of that has to do with the fact that they can field most of Ireland’s test side on any given day. Of course, they don’t. This is due to the immense strength in depth that Leo Cullen has under his belt.

The conveyor belt of talent proceeds to churn out some exceptional players, and we will see some new faces make the grade this season.

Let’s not forget the stellar operators in the form of Garry Ringrose, James Lowe, Josh van der Flier, Caelan Doris, Tadgh Furlong, Andrew Porter, and James Ryan. Sexton, at 36, is still one of the best flyhalves in world rugby right now.

This betting guide for the United Rugby Championship 2022-23 season cannot overlook the fact that this is the team to beat. Those behind the betting odds for the URC in 2022-23 know this, as does every other side in the championship.

Simply put, Leinster is a world-class outfit with a second team that could potentially win the title. And that’s pretty scary.

Munster logo
  • Odds: +750
  • Nation: Ireland
  • Captain: Peter O’Mahony
  • Head Coach: Graham Rowntree
  • 2021/22 Finish: Quarter-Finals
  • 2022/23 Predicted Finish: Semi-Finals

The van Graan era was nothing to write home about.

Once the dominant force both domestically and in Europe, the Red Army has not had much to celebrate in recent times. You must go back to the 2011-12 season to find the last time Munster won the United Rugby Championship. Back then, it was known as the Magner’s League.

The Limerick-based side is hoping for better days under the guidance of Graham Rowntree.

England’s World Cup-winning prop has a solid team at his disposal. The likes of Tadhg Beirne, Peter O’Mahony, Chris Farrell, Craig Casey, and Gavin Coombes can wreak havoc on this championship. Of course, to do this, they need consistency. And Rowntree, who walks into his first-ever head coach role, must hit the ground running to get the best out of this lot.

If you’re thinking of making United Rugby Championship picks for 2022-23 based on Munster’s sizeable odds, I wouldn’t hate you. We’ll see more from this side in this year’s tournament, but I expect they will fall just short.

It will be interesting to look back on this betting guide for the United Rugby Championship in 2022-23, a little later in the year.

Stormers logo
  • Odds: +1000
  • Nation: South Africa
  • Co-Captains: Salmaan Moerat and Ernst van Rhyn
  • Head Coach: John Dobson
  • 2021/22 Finish: Winners
  • 2022/23 Predicted Finish: Semi-Finals

Some of the best odds for the 2022-23 United Rugby Championship can be found with the defending champions.

Despite a very impressive debut as part of the Northern Hemisphere mix, the Stormers are priced at +1000 to repeat their feat. Translated from betting speak, this means that the oddsmakers don’t see them as a mega threat. Furthermore, it could be argued that those behind the URC odds for the 2023 Grand Final Winners believe good fortune had much to do with their win.

Now, the Stormers are hardly a team that will collapse under pressure. They are a physical powerhouse with impressive attacking verve. They have shown that they can beat anyone on their day, especially when it comes to playing at home in Cape Town.

2021-22 United Rugby Championship Stats for The Stormers
  • Top Points Scorer: Manie Libbok – 171
  • Joint Top Try Scorer: Leolin Zas – 11
  • Most Carries: Evan Roos – 261
  • Most Successful Carries: Evan Roos – 149
  • Most Defenders Beaten: Evan Roos – 60
  • Most Turnovers Won: Deon Fourie – 28
  • Most Penalties Scored to Missed: Manie Libbok – 27

The Cape Town side smashed it in the stats department last season, as you can see by the numbers above.

If the betting odds for the United Rugby Championship in 2022-23 are anything to go by, I’d consider a wager on the Stormers. They have some excellent big-game players that will be looking to show they are more than a one-season wonder.

But will their inclusion in the 2023 Heineken Champions Cup be as potent? We will find that out!

Ulster logo
  • Odds: +1000
  • Nation: Ireland
  • Captain: Iain Henderson
  • Head Coach: Dan McFarland
  • 2021/22 Finish: Semi-Finals
  • 2022/23 Predicted Finish: Final

I like Ulster to go one better this season and reach the final.

McFarland’s side is another Irish province packed with talent. From the electric John Cooney to the sold and reliable presence of Iain Henderson, Ulster is a force to be reckoned with. And while +1000 doesn’t exactly put them in the same box as other United Rugby Championship sleepers to win the Grand Final in 2023, that’s still a solid price.

Ulster is strengthening up its pack with the inclusions of Jeffery Toomaga-Allen, Frank Bradshaw, and Sean Refell from Wasps, Nevers, and Saracens, respectively.

I think we could see the northern province make the final this year, at the very least.

Some players are desperate to make it to the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, and we could see a fair few talented backs put their hands up for selection. If you’re betting on France to win the World Cup next year, you might want to consider backing Ulster to do well on the domestic front this season.

2022-23 United Rugby Championship Predictions and Picks

Ross Byrne
  • Winner: Leinster (-170)
  • Top Sleeper Bet: Scarlets (+6600)
  • Top Try Scorer: Johnny McNicholl (TBC)
  • Top Points Scorer: Ross Byrne (TBC)

The betting odds for Leinster to win the 2022-23 United Rugby Championship are well worth a shot at -170.

The Irish team seemed to fall apart when it mattered last season, in both the URC semi-final against the Bulls and their 2022 Heineken Champions Cup final defeat to La Rochelle. Neither were hammerings, but claiming that they did not deserve silverware at the end of the year is a huge argument to make.

I’ll back Leinster, especially with the Rugby World Cup looming, to be firing on all cylinders. There are places on the plane up for grabs, with many Dublin-based teams looking to push through. They were two games away from five championships in a row, and I believe they will be even stronger and more devastating than they were last year.

Are you looking to place United Rugby Championship sleepers and value picks? I’d recommend looking at Wales’ Scarlets. At +6600 to win the Grand Final, the West Walians are worth some pocket change.

The loss of Liam Williams to Cardiff will be felt, but there is more than enough quality in the side to think that they could be better than their odds. The acquisition of 11-cap New Zealand lock/flanker Vaea Fifita from Wasps is good business. And while the Welsh regions continue to struggle, the chance to play at France 2023 should be a kick up the backside for the team’s underperformers.

Two solid prop bets for the United Rugby Championship 2022-23 are Scarlets’ Johnny McNicholl to finish as top try scorer and Leinster’s Ross Byrne to take the leading points scorer award.

More 2022-23 URC Betting Advice to Consider

URC trophy

We’ve covered predictions, odds, and betting picks for the United Rugby Championship 2022-23 season.

Is there anything left to consider? It wouldn’t seem that there is much more to be said that I haven’t already touched on. But there is. And I’m sure you’re keen to hear me out. So, in just spirit, I’d like to recommend some more advice for other potential bets for URC games in the 2022-23 season.

First, I’d get into the habit of betting live on United Rugby Championship matches.

You can always check out our top real money gambling apps for future bets and more. But they are also very effective tools for increasing your chances of winning money on the weekly fixtures.

Sometimes, it pays to get a little bit of a feel for a match. When you’re not comfortable with making United Rugby Championship predictions ahead of a game, observing the first five or ten minutes could be all it takes. And having the option to bet on URC matches live can make the difference.

Furthermore, I’d consider looking at the strength of some of the peripheral teams in this year’s tournament. The URC odds for 2022-23 have some bargains in the prices department; a little bit of homework could unearth some real gems.

Finally, we also have the 2022-23 Heineken Champions Cup to bet on. Again, there are some top bets you could get your hands on before the odds begin to shift. You can find out all you need to know in the following piece.

Good luck!

Early Analysis and Odds for the 2023 Heineken Champions Cup

Who wins the 2023 Heineken Champions Cup? If that’s something you feel you can predict, perhaps you can make some money. Just weeks after France’s La Rochelle beat Ireland’s Leinster in the 2022 final, the bookies are already looking ahead...
