2021 LoL Worlds Main Event Semifinals – Odds and Analysis

| October 27, 2021 8:34 am PST

The South Korean dominance continued in the LoL Worlds 2021 knockouts.

We have three LCK representatives in the semifinals. The only team from the country that was sent packing was eliminated by another Korean team.

It’s safe to say that the region looks stronger than ever this year, but we still have one Chinese representative left that could spoil the LCK party.

The LoL Worlds 2021 semifinals odds are out and that gives me a good opportunity to share my betting preview for the next stage of the tournament. When I’m done with it, I also provide my predictions for the eventual champion.

T1 vs. DWG KIA Odds and Analysis

T1 to Win+201
DWG KIA to Win-250
T1 (+1.5)-101
DWG KIA (-1.5)-130
Over 4.5+172
Under 4.5-238

I’ve used the Lol Worlds 2021 Semifinals betting odds of BetOnline, one of my favorite online bookmakers for esports.

Is anyone surprised that the sportsbook views DWG KIA as the favorite in this clash? The reigning champions are 9-0 in the competition so far and they have been extremely impressive.

After crushing everyone in the group stages, DWG KIA beat MAD Lions in the quarterfinals without losing a single game.

The European side put up a fight in the second game after a strong start, but DWG KIA managed to come back and keep its perfect record.

The entire team looks determined to go all the way in the LoL Worlds 2021 once again. ShowMaker has been phenomenal in the mid lane, BeryL is probably the best support in the tournament, and Canyon was the shining star of the previous round.

Khan and Ghost did their part too and it’s obvious that there are no weak links in DWG KIA. The squad knows how to play around objectives and get the most value of the map.

It’s really hard to see how T1 or anyone, for that matter, could stop the champions from bringing another Summoner’s Cup home. And yet, there are some reasons to believe that the underdog is not doomed for this match.

For a start, T1 completely dominated Hanwha Life Esports in the previous round. The team has a 9-1 record in the Worlds so far and the only defeat came against the strongest Chinese representative EDward Gaming in the groups.

On top of that, T1 found some success against DWG KIA in the LCK Summer Season. Here’s how the matches between these two sides went in the second Korean competition of 2021.

  • June 11: DWG KIA 2-1 T1
  • July 17: T1 2-1 DWG KIA
  • August 28: DWG KIA 3-1 T1

The teams split the regular season encounters and then met again in the final where DWG KIA won by 3-1. It’s obvious that the world champions are the more established side, but they are about to meet their strongest challenge in the tournament so far.

I don’t think that any of the teams can win this one in fewer than four games and I won’t be shocked if we go all the way to five. DWG KIA is still the favorite, but I believe that T1 might surprise the world and win this one.

EDward Gaming vs. Gen.G Odds and Analysis

EDward Gaming to Win-227
Gen.G to Win+184
EDward Gaming (-1.5)-102
Gen.G (+1.5)-128
Over 4.5+177
Under 4.5-244

The second LoL Worlds 2021 semifinal features the last non-Korean team left in the tournament. EDward Gaming will try to defend LPL’s pride and the online betting sites believe that the squad should at least reach the final of the competition.

The main reason behind the Chinese side’s status as a favorite probably lies in Gen.G’s performance in the group stage. It was the least convincing from all Korean teams and the side had a 3-3 record.

On the other hand, that was in a group that included MAD Lions, LNG Esports, and Team Liquid. Every single game was a battle and Gen.G showed a lot of character to go on top.

The convincing 3-0 victory against Cloud9 in the quarterfinals showed that the Koreans are ready to step up their game when it matters the most.

On top of that, it’s not like EDward Gaming’s path to the Worlds Semifinals has been faultless.

The team finished second in a relatively easy group and then barely beat the other Chinese side left in the first round of the knockouts.

This is the first time EDward Gaming goes that far and the pressure will be huge. I’m not sure that the favorite tagline in the semifinals helps either.

In my opinion, this match will be much closer than the odds suggest. It’s almost a coin flip based on what we’ve seen so far and the price for Gen.G to steal the win is way too high.

The Koreans have more momentum and they have been improving by the minute at the Worlds. If they can do the same in the next round, they can beat EDward Gaming.

Who is Going to Win the Worlds?

After previewing the LoL Worlds 2021 Semifinals, I feel obliged to share my thoughts on the potential champion too. I believe that the team that wins Saturday’s clash between DWG KIA and T1 will go on to lift the Summoner’s Cup at the end too.

The best LoL betting sites firmly expect the reigning champions to come out on top, but I’m not so sure. It feels like T1 is pretty much on the same level, so I can’t wait to see how these two match up this weekend.

The other clash should be interesting too and the teams there are not doomed by any means. And yet, it feels like they have been a step behind DWG KIA and T1.

What do you think about the remaining squads in the LoL Worlds 2021 Semifinals? Do you agree with my assessment? I would love to see your opinion in the comments below.
