History of Chartwell Technology

Chartwell Technology is a fairly popular supplier of gaming software for online casinos. The company creates and promotes its own online gaming solutions and operates out of Calgary, having offices in three different countries. Chartwell Technology provides its online casino software platforms to casinos based in the United Kingdom, Canada and Malta. Some of the popular online casinos that use Chartwell Technology for their gaming offerings include Bwin, Betfair and Casinos Austria.

Early Beginnings of Chartwell Technology

Chartwell Technology has come a long way since it was first created in 1987 under the name Napier Explorations. The company was based in British Columbia and was instituted for the purpose of mineral exploration in the region. A few years later, in 1988 to be exact, the name of Napier Explorations was replaced with Brockton Resources, under which banner it continued to function under as a mineral exploration company until the year 1992, when it cast aside its mining operations as per the Business Corporations Act of Alberta.

It was in the last quarter of the year 1992, that Brockton Resources became Chartwell Ventures, during which period it was involved in the oil and gas industry. A few years later in 1998, Chartwell acquired Gateway Technology, an enterprise that provided computer software platforms and this began the organization’s foray into the gaming industry.

At this point of time, Chartwell moved into the software manufacturing and licensing sector and later changed its name from Chartwell Ventures to Chartwell Technology in 1998 to support this move.

Chartwell Technology Incorporates Custom Design in Offerings

In 2005, Chartwell Technology acquired MICROPOWER following the first quarter of the year and went ton to create an online poker gaming platform for the European market. Chartwell Technology is particularly known for customizing its software to suit the needs of the casino or the gaming market it is being used in. This includes offerings of branding and allowing clients to choose from an extensive selection of themes, colors and shapes so that they can customize their online casino. This service is also extended towards its affiliates.

Chartwell Technology and the UIGEA

Chartwell Technology did not remain unaffected by the UIGEA and had to make a few changes in keeping with the US Law. As per the US law, Chartwell Technology did not license its software to US casinos and went one step further by not offer its products to any gambling sites that accepted wagers from US players, no matter their jurisdiction and licensing requirements. Since the company catered mostly to European markets, it did not have to face many challenges but it still lost on revenue during the 2007 fiscal year. Chartwell Technology also had to combat a stronger stream of competition when other gaming software providers turned to the European markets having lost out in US players.

Chartwell Technology As It Is Today

Chartwell Technology is an industry leader where online casinos software is concerned and runs two of the most popular gaming enterprises online. Its offerings include several table games, card games, video poker options, slots and other games and its software is reputed to be top notch as is evident from the popularity of its casinos Bwin and Betfair. Chartwell Technology has grown over the years and now offers support in multiple currencies and in 24 languages.
